At the foot of the new Kakslauttanen igloo tower is the Kakslauttanen Art Gallery, which presents top-notch modern Finnish art.
Kakslauttanen Art Gallery
Kakslauttanen Art Gallery presents, first and foremost, top-level modern Finnish art. Modern Lapland and Saami art play an important role in the choices of artists and works.
Kakslauttanen Art Gallery opened in November 2017. The gallery has up to 450m2 of space for art. In addition to the changing, curated exhibitions, part of the gallery is devoted to a permanent sales collection, where renowned modern Finnish artists’ works are continually on display, including small sculptures, paintings, graphics and photographs. The gallery also has dedicated video and media art spaces.
Kakslauttanen Art Gallery is in the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort (West Village) at the foot of the new igloo tower, on Kultaojantie. The front yard of the gallery is home four-metre sculpture by Essi Korva entitled “Finland 100”.
The Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort has long been known for its environmental art. The annual international art symposium “Arctic Art Week” in Kakslauttanen has left its mark on the resort area: nature walkers can spot around one hundred and fifty sculptures. Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort has also launched an artists-in-residence programme for artists seeking inspiration in the unique nature of Lapland.
