Swimming places in Sodankylä

Sodankylä is known for its pure nature and beautiful landscapes. Swimming places are a great way to experience these natural wonders up close. Here you will find both well-equipped beaches and natural swimming spots, providing the perfect setting for a refreshing swim.

Beaches in the town centre

In the town centre area, you can easily cool off at the beaches maintained by the municipality of Sodankylä. Nilimella beach is located by the Kitinen River in the immediate vicinity of Piitsi Pub. In Nilimella you will also find a beach ball court, where you are guaranteed to enjoy competing with friends or family! The Sports Park’s beach is located along the Jeesiö River, next to an Accessible Fishing Spot. The whole family is guaranteed to enjoy the beach, as in the immediate vicinity of the beach you will also find the versatile possibilities of the Sports Park, such as fitness stairs and a playground. Savikangas beach, also known as Korvenlampi and Betroc beach, is located in a sheltered area where families with children especially enjoy themselves. Savikangas beach is also a short walk from the Local History and Culture Museum, which is open during the summer and admission is free.

Kommatti swimming spot

Kommatintie 25

Kommatti’s swimming spot is located in Kommattivaara, about six kilometres from the centre of Sodankylä. Kommatti’s swimming spot is a beautiful and peaceful destination surrounded by nature. You can swim from the pier and, if you want to spend the evening with your friends or organize events/meetings in the area, Kommatti’s hut and sauna can also be rented for your use.   • N.B! Kommatti’s hut and sauna will not be in use 1.7.–18.8.2024 due to yard renovation, which may also affect access to the swimming area.

Luosto beach

Located in Aarnilampi in Luosto, the beach  is a charming nature destination that offers a wonderful setting for summer recreation.
